About Me

My photo
Miami , FL, United States
Born and raised in Miami, Lissette's passion isn't only enjoying the lovely south Florida weather and beaches, but also traveling which leads to new life experiences. She has a degree in Cardiovascular Technology and later she graduated from Miami Dade College with a degree in Television and Films. Lissette won the coveted title of Miss Florida USA 2011 and went on to represent her home state at the nationally televised pageant Miss USA, where she placed in the top 15.   Since the tender age of 5 she also enjoyed fixing cars with her dad -- classic cars to be specific. Her passion was almost immediate, as she was able to see the beauty that a good ole' classic bestows. Working on her first car a 1972 Chevy Bel-Air with her dad, it only got bigger and better. Now she's on a new journey for a new title, MOMMY! As Lissette documents her journey through her pregnancy, feel free to leave her tips!

Where did April go?!....

Exactly…April flew by me like a soaring dove. Did you get your taxes done?!?
Filled with Appearances, training sessions, charity fundraisers, finals in school, wardrobe selections, work, and working out…,you know all those pageant things. It seriously didn’t give me time to sit back and enjoy some time off, my time off was taken up by studying. None the less all in training for a brighter future. I did great this semester at Miami Dade, then again I don’t settle for mediocre. It’s great to be a college student, but trying to be a college student and Miss Florida USA WHOA! I do love school, I could’ve taken this semester off and focused on Miss USA, but it would’ve been WAY too much time off, no thanks I need to keep busy.

Making a difference is my motto, this month also signifies RELAY FOR LIFE, my 2nd favorite time of year (Thanksgiving being #1!). Starting off with the strategies on fundraising for the big event, counting down until relay day, 18 hours of fundraising for the American Cancer Society. “RELAY WE LOVE IT,ALL 18 HOURS OF IT!"
We raised over $150,000 for Relay for Life, and will continue to grow from here on out!

March Madness

Well March did begin with everything speeding by in madness. Finishing MUO paperwork and turning in all pictures things are getting on their way, if you haven’t visited the pageant page, it’s now the time to log on and vote for Florida (5 stars all the way). Visit http://www.missuniverse.com/missusa/members/profile/585147/year:2011/ and create a user name. It’s easy!

This month as been filled with great events, after ending last month with Embrace Girl Power and their etiquette class, this month began with my meetings with Don Baker (still the best), Jorge Esteban (for interview), Brooke Eneas (all about getting the fitness ready), LauRen Merola (Miss PA USA 2008, Finalist Miss USA), Dr. Carlos Morales, and the rest of the team. Of course Benizo joined us here in South Florida and the weather was acceptable for a beach shoot, so we jumped on the opportunity to shoot on the sand. The water was freezing by the way, but it was still fun none the less.

The month is still young as we are mid way, and we have begun Day Light Savings time. I must say, I did need that extra hour of sleep Sunday morning. Lol. Last Saturday was the Junior Miss Hialeah pageant which I had a little apprentice participating in. Victoria Hernandez is a family friend that I helped in her preparations for the pageant; she went on to become the new Miss Junior Hialeah 2011. Her age group was from 8 to 12, YES at 10 years old she beat the older girls! =0) LOL. She had a great time, and I was very happy that she accomplished her goal. Vicky’s won her first pageant; God only knows how far she will get in life. She is in journalism in school, the chess club, a dancer, and swimmer, plays tennis, and is looking to help the homeless during her reign.

I also had the pleasure of meeting in person Jose L. Sosa aka J*Lu Sosa from J*Lu blog. He became a great friend through the social media sight Facebook. Keeping in touch we became close friends, so a Starbucks afternoon was in the works. You can read and see his blog on www.thejlublog.com. We had a great time meeting, the afternoon was a gorgeous Miami afternoon, in the fast paced life of Brickell Ave, during lunch time seeing all the exec’s sitting and talking, as we sat and talked about our future endeavors. Well Now I sit in another Starbucks writing to you, ha! I love this place.

La Casa Hermosa will be my next stop this week, which should be a final rough draft of what you will see me in on stage. What will it be, what will it be? I know Robin has a great eye for gowns and for what I like to wear, trusting her every move and open to suggestions from the audience. Ultimately the final decision will be mine (and my mom’s), a dress that makes me feel like a million bucks! I will let you know how it goes….

February

Celebrating Black History Month is how I began the month of February, literally. I enjoyed an evening tea party the girls of Embrace Girl Power. Embrace Girl Power! After School Program & Camps is a non-profit 501©3 organization established in 2001, where little girls learn to be healthy, confident, ambitious and educated young ladies. As the ladies welcomed Ford Motor Company Fund Director, Pamela G. Alexander. Their afternoon tea party was a great success, as I enjoyed hearing the girls ask Mrs. Alexander questions about "what the Freedom Sisters means to her", and "What her favorite color was?" With other great guests in attendance such has Julie Guy and Tamera G from Those two girls in the Morning, on The Coast.

Embrace Girl Power

I always enjoy hanging with the girls and answering their questions. It's an enlightening experience when you know that they are listening and being motivated by my words. Simple words, but none the less they have some one to look up too. THe benefit of it the bombarding of hugs when they see me ;-) .

Marcolin

A sponsor of the Miss Florida USA pageant is Maroclin Distributers...They have absolutely an amazing selection of eye wear from simple to extravagant. Roberto Cavali eye wear gave me the opportunity to wear his designs in both Sunglasses and Reading glasses.
Yes I do wear glasses and contacts, and I enjoy my eye accessories. 8-)
The Miss Florida Family has brought together a great group of sponsors, that enjoy making the title holders proud of who they are and what they represent.

Also this month I had the honor to return to the Florida Seminole Tribe festival to judge their annual Mr. and Miss. Junior Seminole Princess pageant. Boy oh Boy was this a difficult pageant to judge. Just imagine, tiny little cute Seminoles parading in their traditional clothing, talking in their high pitch voices, smiling and stumbling over themselves...How do I find a winner amongst these cuties that I just want to pinch their cheeks!!!! I haven't received the pictures, I will post as soon as I get them. But I enjoy every time I am with the tribal members. They have such a different perspective on life and on to work. They truly believe in their traditions and passing it down to the youngins', that is why this pageant is an important celebration during the festival. I learn new things every time I hang with the Florida Seminole Tribe.

I also flew to Arizona to meet with the great photographer Benizo. Boy was Arizona a nice place, and the pictures were AMAZING! =) Benizo has a very artistic view, and when he looks through the lens of his camera magic happens, and then he captures it. Ben is such a great person to work with, and he really knows how to bring out that inner beauty. A relaxed atmosphere as he plays his hits on his Ipod, but thanks to the Lauren Carter Miss Vermont USA 2011, who was with us at the shoot, we heard a few better selection of songs. HA HA! It was nice to meet Lauren and Samantha at the shoot, you know we had the girl power thing going on, Oh and my mommy went along too =).

6 months into my reign and...

Yes it's been 6 months about to be 7 months and it has been none stop action since winning my title in July of 2010. I think I will remain at the 6th month mark, has anyone figured out how to stop time??! The summer went by with flying colors, getting to know my great State of Florida and meeting wonderful supporters. The opportunity to support Alyssa Rivera in Miss Teen USA and Kamie Crawford Miss Teen USA 2010. Fall came and went with greatness, raising funds for Making Strides against Breast Cancer and the crowning of a new Miss Florida Teen 2011, Mikyle Crockett. I also headed back to school, changing my mayor for the term of my reign to Mass Communication and Journalism, something that I also wanted to do. Oh yeah and then came Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday! Winter had no blues for me this year as festivities leading up to the Winter Fest Boat Parade kept the holiday spirit in the air. Such a wonderful event to be a part of. Habitat for Humanity hosted me in the Gala down in Marathon Key, and then the Miami Dolphins. Then BAM 2011 is here, still in winter and enjoying every minute of it. Yes I love Miami, FL. for its wonderful weather, but I hate humidity, my hair hasn't looked this good for a while (I'm always hanging with Natalie Dyson of Florida Hair Extensions). Beginning a new semester in school and also a new semester in my preparations for Miss USA. Anybody know the date yet? I have no idea when it will be but keep your eyes open for sometime in June. Yes Rima Fakih will get an extra month in her reign (no fair, lol). It's going to be great either way. Right now working with my coaches and getting wardrobe ready, fitness ready, mentally ready, all to get Ready for the Pageant. Soon it will be Valentines Day, hmmm wonder what you're doing? Wait Superbowl is before that, I'm a Steelers fan! Steelers all the way baby! I <3 Polamalu...
Can't wait for the excitement of that night, and during that day is Miss Coral Gables USA 2012 where my girl Annile Hastey will be competing. Good Luck Girl!

2011 is here...Time for Miss USA

Well no date has been set yet, but it's finally my year. Time to get the ball rolling and the game face on, well a smiling face because I'm so excited about Miss USA. Don't know where the location will be either, but hopefully in Vegas. As I'm gathering my thoughts, my goals, the game plan and my wardrobe, I am also focused on my cause Ovarian Cancer. I will soon be planning events for the cause, where I will invite all my friends to join in. But no doubt that the time has come.
Hitting the gym, going to school, and focusing on my future.
